About Ells

Firstly, hi and welcome to Ells & Whistles! My name is Ellie or Ell to those in the know, which is now you guys. I live in Cambridge in small house filled with yarn. The story of how I found my craft is probably one you have heard a hundred times. I was taught to knit by my mum when I was little. I remember only wanting to knit in slightly ridiculous colours; actually my first project was a jumper in orange, yellow and pink which I then completely covered in buttons. I would like to tell you my style has matured slightly but unfortunately I still become a little girl in a sweet shop when I stand in front of a wall of wool and usually end up grabbing the brightest thing I can find!

I drifted away from crafts until I finished university and was determined to make a blanket for my new home; a patchwork of orange and blue. It was probably 20 squares into this that I decided to learn to crochet, from YouTube as most do these days. I picked up a hook, made myself a blanket and have never looked back! As someone with a short attention span I was so struck with the speed of crocheting that I could finish projects before getting bored, a real plus for me!

I find something so fulfilling about the idea of taking a piece of yarn and building something from it. Knotting it until it forms an entirely new shape. Here I want to share with you some of my crafty musings, as well as some patterns I will come up with from time to time. I would also love to hear what you have to say so feel free to get in touch, even just to say hi!

Happy Crafting!

Ells xx
